Alternative Education
Alternatives Unlimited offers programs for students who are generally disruptive in class, have been suspended or even expelled from their local school. In some cases, the students have been engaged with the juvenile justice system. Students may be in the program for as few as 45 days, a semester, or for the full school year.
Program features include:
- A Prescribed Instructional Plan (PIP) to improve academic performance and behavior for each student;
- Regularly scheduled preparatory exercises for state and district mandated exams;
- Consistent use of research-based instructional activities: individualized and small group instruction, project-based learning, hands-on classroom activities, field experiences and internships;
- A core academic program with instruction in English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Sciences, Social Studies, Life Skills, and Physical Education. All courses are aligned with the district’s curriculum content objectives;
- Experienced counselors and social workers to help students with social and emotional development, act as liaisons with community agencies and provide services to students and their families;
- A life skills curriculum that develops vocational and social skills, health awareness, and job readiness.
